Antioxidants are substances which neutralise free radicals. Free radicals are by-products of the metabolism of the body but they can also be the result of atmospheric pollution, chemical products in the environment, radiation, alcohol abuse (exogneous factors) as well as of an illness, intense physical exercise or lack of rest (endogenous factors).
Reduced glutathione is the most powerful of the antioxidants, i.e. the main antioxidant in the human body (100 times more powerful than vitamins C and E). Moreover, glutathione activates the P53 gene, which is the tumour-suppressing gene.
Oxidised glutathione is turned back into reduced glutathione (REDOX-shuttle) by anthocyans (which come from grape skins).
When high demands are placed on the adrenal glands, a lack of folic acid is often evident.
